Akka Rimon

Akka Rimon is a PhD candidate at The Australian National University (ANU) Department of Pacific Affairs.

Prior to beginning her PhD, Akka led the World Bank’s Liaison Office in Bairiki, Kiribati. In this role, she supported the World Bank team and the Government of Kiribati to implement agreed International Development Association investments, including a portfolio of infrastructural engagements in the water, health, outer islands, economic reform, and information and communications technology sectors.

Prior to joining the World Bank, Ms Rimon was the Secretary of the Kiribati Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration. She had worked in government as a public administrator for more than 15 years.

She holds a Master of Public Administration and Public Policy from the Graduate School of Government at the University of Sydney and was the first I-Kiribati woman to graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism and political studies.

Ms Rimon’s research interests include analysing labour mobility schemes in the Pacific and how these could provide an option for economic adaptation to climate-induced displacement for Kiribati.
