Claudia Geist

Dr Claudia Geist is Assistant Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies at the University of Utah. Her research and teaching examine the intersection of family, gender, and economic inequality.

She has published on a variety of topics in these areas, including numerous articles on the gendered division of housework. Her coauthored book Counted Out: Same Sex Relations and Americans’ Definitions of Family has won multiple book awards and is now available in paperback.

Related work is featured in a chapter in Families As They Really Are, 2nd Ed.  Her current research examines the link between economic circumstances and fertility intentions as well as new theoretical approaches to assessing gender and gender inequality.
