In 2017, Daniel Gilfillan completed his PhD through the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University. Prior to beginning at Fenner, Daniel spent eight years as an international development practitioner, with his experiences leading his decision to undertake a climate change governance focussed PhD.

Specifically, Daniel’s PhD research focussed on the role of regional organisations supporting health sector adaptation to climate change in Southeast Asia. One of his main findings was that regional organisations could improve their support by actively (and at an institutional level) cooperating and collaborating on the design and implementation of interventions that span sectors and scales. Daniel has also done research in the Pacific, finding similar issues arising with regards to regional organisations’ support for adaptation to climate change adaptation in small island developing states.

Currently, Daniel is providing governance and climate change related support for regionally focussed public health initiatives in Southeast Asia.
