Fan Yang studies, researches, and teaches at the University of Melbourne and Deakin University.
Fan received the Master of Global Media Communication from the School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne, Australia, with a thesis on the visual representation of China’s internal migration project during the 1950s. She is currently a PhD student in the School of Communication and Creative Arts of Deakin University and her project is focusing on the digital Chinese ethnic media in Australia.
Fan’s research interests include transnational Chinese media platforms, internet governance, smart cities framework, data surveillance, and privacy rights. She has previously published in the International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social and Community Studies and Asia & the Pacific Policy Studies.
