Gill Main

Gill’s research interests comprise child poverty and social exclusion, and specifically incorporating children’s and families’ own perspectives and experiences into how child poverty is conceptualised, defined and measured.

She was Principle Investigator on the ESRC-funded Fair Shares and Families research project (grant number ES/N015916/1), a mixed-methods study investigating children’s and families’ experiences of sharing family resources. This research built on her doctoral research which developed a measure of child deprivation based on children’s perceptions of their needs.

She has also worked on the UK Poverty and Social Exclusion Study, the Children’s Worlds study. She was Partner Investigator on the ARC-funded project, Material Deprivation and Social Exclusion Among Young Australians: A child-focussed approach.
