Hamed K. El-Said, PhD – Chair and Professor of International Political Economy at the Manchester Metropolitan University. He is also a senior advisor to the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force (UNCTITF), which is responsible for implementing the United Nations Global Counter Terrorism Strategy.
He wrote the United Nations First Inventory of Deradicalisation programs in 2009, the Sydney Memorandum on Challenges and Management of Prison Deradicalisation Programs in 2011 during his fieldwork visit to Australia, and participated along with a small group of carefully selected experts in drafting the Rome Memorandum on Good Practices for Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Violent Extremist Offenders.
Professor El-Said is the author and co-author of seven books, including two on Deradicalisation programs alone. He published extensively on the economics and politics of the Arab World and is currently writing his latest book on ‘Foreign Fighters; Theory, Practices, and Policies.’ All the opinions expressed in this article are those of author’s alone.
