Hastimal Sagara is an assistant professor of economics with the GLS University, Ahmedabad, India, with more than 15 years of teaching experience. He is also a University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test and Junior Research Fellow.

Hastimal was among the ‘The Most Favourite Faculty on College Campus’ in an opinion poll conducted by Times of India, Ahmedabad in 2008. He was awarded with a major research project entitled, ‘Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme: An Impact Assessment of the Scheme Implementation in Gujarat and Rajasthan’ by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

His research interests include issues in information technology, growth and development and rural economics. He has presented several research papers at national and international conferences, and his publications include two books and 15 research papers in edited volumes and journals. He was awarded with a cash prize of INR 0.1 million by the Gujarat Law Society, Ahmedabad for his contribution towards research.
