Professor John Horne FAcSS, is the author, co-author, editor and co-editor of many publications, including most recently Understanding the Olympics (with Garry Whannel, 2nd edition, 2016) and Mega-Events and Globalization (edited with Richard Gruneau, 2016), both published by Routledge.

In 2011 he was appointed as subject expert to the Sport and Exercise Sciences, Leisure and Tourism panel (UoA 26) in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), and elected as an Academician/Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) in 2012. He is currently Vice Chair of the British Sociological Association (BSA) and was elected Vice President and Treasurer of the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA) in 2016.
