Justin Whitney is a researcher in the emergency management sector in Australia and his focus is to apply his research to real-world problems and is currently working with a range of stakeholders to enhance baseline understanding and awareness of hazards within the sector and broader community.
He earned his PhD in the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs’ Department of Political and Social Change at ANU, and conducted his doctoral research on resilience and crisis responses in Japan between 1959 and 2011 with particular focus on the role of the not-for-profit sector and neighbourhood associations.
Justin has spent approximately 14 years in Japan during which time he worked as a volunteer in a not-for-profit organisation and a researcher in a university research centre which specialised in legal assistance to transitional economies.
