Dr. Lauren A. Johnston is the McKenzie Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research, Faculty of Business and Economics, University of Melbourne.
Her research in development and international economics focuses on China and Africa and their economic ties. She is a co-editor of the China Update, an annual volume on the Chinese economy published in English and in Chinese.
Prior to joining the Melbourne Institute, Lauren held positions at the Beijing Foreign Studies University, the World Bank in Washington, World Economic Forum in Geneva, Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), Overseas Development Institute (Fellow, Ministries of Finance of Sierra Leone and Guyana, 2003-05), and as an editor with Taylor and Francis in London.
Lauren holds a PhD in International Economics from Peking University (2013), MSc Development Economics (London (SOAS)) and a BA/BCom from the University of Melbourne.
