Lisa Heap is a labour lawyer with over 20 years of experience. She is a member of the Centre for People, Organisation and Work at RMIT University, where she is researching new regulatory approaches designed to prevent gendered violence in the workplace.

Lisa is the former Executive Director of the Australian Institute of Employment Rights, a non-government organisation that promotes the application of International Labour Standards within Australia.

In 2018 and 2019 Lisa was a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO)’s Standard Setting Committee that developed the new ILO Convention on the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work. She was also a member of the Victorian Government’s Ministerial Council on Women’s Equality and the Victorian Ministerial Taskforce on the Prevention of Violence Against Women.

In 2018 Lisa was commissioned, by the Victorian Government, to produce the state’s first Women in Construction Strategy. This strategy explores ways of overcoming the barriers to the attraction, recruitment, and retention of women in trades and trade-related roles.

In 2015 Lisa established the Women’s Rights and Safety unit at Victorian Trades Hall Council where she led the Victorian trade union movement’s groundbreaking work on gendered violence at work.
