Maria Taylor

Maria Taylor (PhD) is an award-winning journalist and former documentary film-maker who now publishes and edits a monthly community newspaper, The District Bulletin in the capital region, building on an extensive background in independent journalism.

Her documentary work in Australia and the United States for lay and educational audiences, has examined environmental and sustainable resource management issues drawing in the social and policy factors that influence environmental decision-making.

She has also worked in government communications in Canberra. On contract she developed and published for 10 years a national agricultural ‘technology transfer’ newspaper for farmers supported by the Grains Research and Development Corporation.

A recent investigation in science communication at the ANU yielded the material for a book published in 2015 by ANU Press: Global warming and climate change: what Australia knew and buried…then framed a new reality for the public. She is currently working on a book exploring Australian cultural history and policy pertaining to wildlife.
