Matthew Kerby is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Politics and International Relations at The Australian National University. He previously held academic positions at the University of Ottawa, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Concordia University in Canada.

Dr Kerby researches in the areas of comparative executive and legislative institutions and behaviour at the national and subnational levels of analysis, particularly with respect to Westminster parliamentary democracies. His current research projects focus on representation and accountability in executive institutions, ministerial promotion and demotion, complete legislative and post-legislative careers, party-switching and judicial careers.

He is co-founder and convenor, with Dr Patrick Dumont, the European Consortium for Political Research Standing Group on Elites and Political Leadership and he is a member of the executive committee of the Selection and Deselection of Political Elites network. Dr Kerby currently teaches POLS1002: Introduction to Political Science with Dr Andrew Banfield, POLS2105: Executives and Political Leadership, and POLS3025: Contemporary Political Analysis, with Dr Katrine Beauregard.
