Pangri Mehta is a sociology doctoral candidate at University of South Florida. She earned her MA in Sociology from the same university, and her BA in Sociology and Spanish from Temple University.

Her previous studies have examined how the Indian Supreme Court negotiates the conflicting constitutional rights of religious freedom and gender equality in contemporary Indian society, how a vigilante group in India mobilised into a social movement that advocated against and informally addressed caste- and gender-based discrimination, and how Asian Indian women negotiate Indian cultural expectations and identities in contemporary American society.

Her current dissertation research uses qualitative methods and takes an intersectional approach (looking at difference within and between groups) to examine how Indian immigrant parents (largely mothers) and their children engage in ethnic and cultural identity-making strategies.
