Paul Shaffer is an associate professor of International Development Studies at Trent University, Canada and Department Chair. He holds a DPhil from the Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK. He has worked and conducted applied research in around 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
Shaffer’s research focuses on poverty and inequality in the Global South on which he has published widely. He is the author of Q-Squared: Combining Qualitative and Quantitative Approaches in Poverty Analysis (Oxford University Press, 2013) and publications on poverty dynamics, causation and poverty, the firm size distribution, impact assessment, poverty monitoring. His current research is focused on the determinants of Inclusive and Immiserising Growth.
