Ron Wainberg is the Technical Director of MRA Consulting Group and a fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers. He is also a member of the International Solid Waste Association.

Ron has developed key skills in the field of solid waste management and has over 25 years of experience in both project and contract management gained in Europe, Asia and Australia. He is a consultant with a particular interest in resource recovery from waste materials and the development of waste management strategies for remote communities.

Until recently, Ron was the managing Director of Biomass Energy Services & Technology, a company performing R&D in renewable energy and resource recovery systems from biomass. Prior to joining BEST, he was the Program Manager for Solid Waste Management at the CRC for Waste Management and Pollution Control with responsibility for leading the development and commercialization of the CRC’s activities in Solid Waste, Site Remediation and Waste Minimisation. From 1989 to 1996, Ron served as an external director of Waste Service NSW.

Ron’s recent career in Solid Waste Management is built on the strong foundation of experience gained in engineering design, project management and business development in the process control, petrochemical and other industries.

Ron has led a variety of projects in the industrial and environmental sectors, including projects for AusAID. These have included such projects as an engineering and environmental assessment of food waste disposal systems, remediation of arsenic-contaminated groundwater in Bangladesh and assessment of the history of pollution on a contaminated site.

While based in Singapore, Ron led a team to develop and grow a distributor network for process control technology in a region extending from Pakistan to the Philippines. This included technology transfer as well as business development and contract negotiations, engineering, project management and product support.

Ron holds a BE and PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Sydney, is a Fellow IEAust, Associate Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and a member of the Waste Management Association of Australia where he has served as NSW Branch President, NSW Branch Treasurer and editor of the national newsletter. He is currently the National Knowledge Manager for the Association.
