Dr Shameem Black is a scholar of contemporary literary and cultural studies, with a focus on India and its diaspora. She is the author of Fiction Across Borders (Columbia University Press, 2010).
Her current book project, tentatively titled India’s Newest Pose, looks at the changing imaginative life of one of India’s foremost cultural exports: yoga. Her research examines how emerging representations of yoga in popular culture negotiate changing ideas of “India” in globalising world.
Her work on postcolonial literature, cosmopolitanism, and the ethics of cross-cultural representation has appeared in Public Culture, South Asia,Social Text, Modern Fiction Studies, and other journals.
