Stephan Ortmann

Stephan Ortmann is a Research Fellow in the Department of Asian and International Studies at City University of Hong Kong and a member of the Southeast Asian Research Centre. He has worked on various aspects of political and social change in East and Southeast Asia, with an emphasis on Singapore, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and China.

His publications have appeared in the prominent academic journals including Asian Affairs, Asian Survey, Administration & Society, Journal of Chinese Business and Economic Studies, Government and Opposition, Journal of Democracy and The Pacific Review.

He is also the author of three books: Managed Crisis: Legitimacy and the National Threat in Singapore (VDM, 2009), Politics and Change in Singapore and Hong Kong: Containing Contention (Routledge, 2010) and the upcoming Environmental Governance in Vietnam: Institutional Reforms and Failures (Palgrave MacMillan, 2017).
