Brad Smith, Global President and Chief Legal Officer of Microsoft will visit ANU to deliver an address on Artificial intelligence and ethics: challenges and responsibilities.

Based in Washington State, Brad joined Microsoft in 1993 and now leads the company’s work on critical issues such as privacy, security, accessibility, environmental sustainability and digital inclusion. He is passionate about the role of technology companies in safeguarding humans in the future of AI. In December 2018, he called for regulation of facial recognition technologies, in order to prevent misuse of this powerful and potentially invasive technology.

Brad will delve into the much debated topic of the ethics of artificial intelligence, and bring his perspective of how society should tackle this important challenge.
