It is estimated that by 2031, Sydney will require 545,000 new homes and 625,000 new jobs to accommodate an additional 1.6 million people. This equates to delivering 27,500 new homes each year compared to just 14,500 homes on average over each of the last five years. Planning for this growth is a major priority for the NSW Government as it seeks to ensure Sydney remains a driving force behind the national economy, and a great place to live and work.
Planning for Sydney’s future will require finding a balance between contested views. Sydney’s rich suburban character will need to be considered against the requirement for a greater level of urban density. The economic transformation of Western Sydney will need to be matched with increased housing and the development of vital infrastructure.
CEDA’s Sydney 2030 will feature a keynote address from NSW Minister for Planning, the Hon. Rob Stokes MP who will outline the role of the Greater Sydney Commission in guiding development of a sustainable and productive Greater Sydney area.
