This workshop at The Australian National University’s Crawford School of Public Policy,  is designed to improve participants’ capacity to evaluate policy documents and build their ability to write effective policy.

Course overview

This hands-on workshop will enhance your policy writing skills and your policy development capacity through effective writing and project management styled approaches on strategy and thinking. You will acquire practical knowledge about the format of a policy document and how to ensure any policy documents you write are well-structured, persuasive and comprehensive.

You will be encouraged to interact actively and share ideas and insights openly and frankly during discussions and feedback sessions (under the Chatham House Rule). You will undertake a number of practical writing exercises which exemplify the typical policy development process. These exercises facilitate thinking about how written communication can be used as a tool to engender stakeholder support or even amend a policy to meet changing needs and demands.

This policy writing workshop is tailored for Public Sector Senior Managers and Managers at the EL2 and EL1 levels seeking to further develop their skills in formulating, negotiating or communicating policy. Aspiring Managers at the APS 6 level would also benefit from attendance.
