It is difficult to play second fiddle to the eastern news reports and images of Koalas dominating the media. There have been significant losses and costs here in Norseman, the Dundas Shire and surrounding areas. The community and Ngadju have lost approximately 530 000 hectares in the Norseman complex fires. Reports stating that no assets have been lost are not true, just not buildings and homes, but significant woodlands, animals and culturally important sites are gone. An already struggling community, local government and indigenous ranger program should be supported to enable recovery for all. Ngadju Conservation are well placed to lead in this recovery.
