The meetings this week between President Macron and Prime Minister Turnbull must be only the beginning of a deep new dialogue between our two countries with so much in common – all the way back to Villers-Bretonneux, and French explorers in earlier times. However we must first get over the fixation on the Quad proposal and instead focus on the AFIJU (Australia, France, India, Japan, USA) grouping that adds the French dialogue with India, USA and now Australia to the Quad.
