the arbitration case in future talks with China.” However, according to an Monday article in PRC mouthpiece China Daily, China will negotiate with the Philippines only if Manila ignores the arbitration ruling which legal experts widely expect to favor the Philippines. There would be nothing for the Philippines to “leverage” under China’s “generous” negotiation conditions.

Duterte has been all over the board regarding his position on negotiations with China. Recently he asked China to build a railway in exchange for silence and inaction on the part of the Philippines on maritime disputes. On another occasion he volunteered to “jet ski” to Scarborough shoal and confront the Chinese himself rather than give up one square centimeter of sacred Philippine soil.

With leadership like that Filipinos should renew their faith in God.
