These squabbles are just “shows” to save face by both parties. Will China ever vacate these islands despite international rulings and sail-bys? USA can encircle China with its allies but it is too late. These island will be militarized eventually. What do you think ASEAN countries can do to prevent this? Maybe we can invite Japan to reintroduce their WW2’s Zone of Peace, Freedom & Neutrality. Our forefathers can tell you what happened.

Playing possum won’t do us any good. And that’s what we’ve been doing since Cory Aquino’s term in office. We liked to play dead on the water to avoid confrontation. Some countries took advantage of our lameness and unwillingness to fight. Self respect calls for a decent military capability as a deterrent.

The government has defaulted on critical security issues by skipping the military modernization act in favor of politicians whose pockets are bottomless. Let them defend the country from Aparri to Jolo. The United States and Great Britain conspired on Sabah at the turn of the 20th century. Now it’s China;s turn to conspire with the United States on the issue of Spratly islands. China would never have built these island fortresses without the consent of the United Kingdom and the United States, a Pacific superpower. Philippines has to revert back to its familiar status in Asia: military and diplomatic subservience.

And Russia always hate the US….
I see the reason of China’s reclamation to West Philippine Sea is to gain a full strategic control of the area against the US.

We have to assert whatever it cost. The best example on that is the state of Israel. But the main reason why its hard for the Filipinos to show its assertiveness its because we are not united on certain political issue unlike in the other countries who has similar situation with us. Most often than not, we are divided and fall.

Her population consists 1/4 of US or EU population. Together with others in South and East Asia could easily counterbalance China.
