From my experience after living in Sydney for three years, I can tell that there was something not quite right with the taxi industry. Very often, the demand exceeded the supply, so clearly a reform was needed.
On the other hand, I have my own reservations regarding the “sharing economy”, and that is regarding taxes. This not only applies to taxis, but also to accommodation, home-restaurants and even “time-exchange” arrangements. When such a high volume of transactions migrate from the “taxable economy” to the “sharing economy”, who is left to carry the burden of the missed tax revenue?
